I'm not sure that I disagree.

Up in the Air (2009)

Alex Goran: What a weasly prick.

Natalie Keener:
Yeah, but what does that make me? Someone who falls for a prick.

Alex Goran:
We all fall for the prick. Pricks are spontaneous, they're unpredictable and they're fun. And then we're surprised when they turn out to be pricks.

Real love isn't painful.

Hahahaha that is only true in fairytales, Cinderella. We hurt the ones we love the most because there are real stakes. If you don't hurt at some point, you don't care. That said, if you hurt all the time ... that's also not right. To love is to risk, and people are only human. We can't expect that those we love won't hurt us at some point. That would be foolish and naive.

That may be true, but how can you have loved someone and then turn around and call them a prick? If it was real love, dismissal wouldn't be so easy.

I didn't call someone a prick. It's a quote from a movie.

I have to agree with you, Wen. People you love can change, and the person who's now a prick really didn't seem like one when you met them, but hindsight is 20/20, and now you're looking back thinking... how did i not see that before? Doesn't mean that it wasn't "real" love, it just means that it didn't work out. And it's only human to blame yourself on some level for a breakup, and ask why you seemingly set yourself up for hurt in the first place. Nobody hurts us as much as those we love, that's part of what's so risky about love, and also why it's so wonderful.

Thanks for 'having my back' but again, didn't call anyone a prick - I just liked the sentiment to an extent. It's just a quote from a movie :)

You're hilariously transparent.

Have any of you seen the movie? The guy really isn't a prick. She's just hurt. LOL
